am I a Parisian?
Five days have passed since I arrived at CDG in Paris.
I have a short memory so I leave some memos here in order not to forget everything I've done or seen so far.
I managed to reach R's apartment using RER(train, a bit slow) and a taxi after arriving at CDG. It was quite a long flight but somehow I survived in the narrow space on board. I was greeted just outside of her apartment by R and fortunately I didn't get lost in the huge city of Europe.Had some cheese and bread for dinner at the apartment.
Cloudy day. Shower sometimes. I went to Musee Orsay then to Notre-Dame Cathedral. Had tart titin and crepe. Food in Paris is unbelievably expensive. Yen is too weak perhaps. Visited the Marais(Jewish district) and Lafayette, a posh departmet store.
R had booked a car and she drove it to Chartres and Orlean. It was a struggle for her to get out of the city. A nightmare. Once on the highway everything went all right. The cathedral of Chartres was so amazing. So overwhelming. I tried the mysterious circle in the center of the architecture. In Orlean I had a crepe of potato and duck, and then visited the cathedral where the stained glasses show the life of Joan de Arc. It was freezing cold inside the building. Through some lovely tiny towns we headed for the inn, which was an old stoned-house with a huge garden. Had a relaxing time in the terrace eating jambon and bread from the nearby supermarket.
Morning started with french breakfast. Almond tart just out of the oven, bread, home-made jam. Why so delicious the french bread?? Went to Chambord and saw the castle. A very old one like the others along the river Loire. History lives here. Then to Chevney, but didn't go into the castle. The site is famous for wine so we visited a winery. A small one they say but it has 15 hectares, 400000 bottles. Tasted 4 or 5 kinds of wine there and got drunk. A quick visit in a chocolate factory. Headed for Blois where another castle stands facing the river. It was on top of the hill and was about to kill me on my way up. Had tea at the foot of the main part of the castle then explored the garden. It was already six so the entrance to the castle was closed. Back at the inn, had bread with fromage, jambon and pate.
French breakfast again in the inn. A genuin french croissant. Straight back to Paris because the holiday is over today and a severe traffic jam was expected. Within two hours we got to the city. In the afternoon, went to Marais again to have a hot chocolate. R's best recommendation. Had a Jewish snack, Latkee. I wanted to listen to a concert and went to St. German des pres and waited for it in vain. There was no concert at all.
Finish for now.
